TDM900 : ECU Error Codes

(image)

Every time the main switch is switched on or anytime when the engine is running, the ECU checks all the sensors and active devices parameters. Should an error occurs - device failure, electrical malfunction, etc - it will be displayed on the main instrument panel as a code. Depending on the gravity of the malfunction, the ECU then tries to fix the problem by taking default values (Fail-Safe Action). If it's not possible then engine start or resume riding will be impossible. In case riding is still possible after an error code appears on the main display, the bike needs an appropriate checking as soon as possible.

Error codes are recorded in the ECU memory for further examination during servicing or by the owner using the DIAG Mode.

Sensors and other devices Error Codes Table

# : Error code number on the dash.
Start : Start check-up error, shows engine start possibility.
Drive : Drive check-up, shows drive possibility.
Diag : shows corresponding DIAG code number to check the problem.
# Item Symptom Fail-Safe Action Start Drive Diag
11 Cylinder identification sensor No normal signals are received from the cylinder identification sensor Continues to operate the engine based on the of the cylinder identification that existed up to that point -
12 Crankshaft position sensor No normal signals are received from the crankshaft position sensor Stops the engine by stopping the injection and ignition -
13 Intake air pressure sensor (I/0) Intake air pressure sensor - open or shortr circuit detected Fixes the intake air pressure to 760 mmHg 03
14 Intake air pressure sensor pipe system Faulty intake air pressure sensor pipe system a hose is detached, causing the constant application of atmospheric pressure to the sensor, or, the hose is closed Fixes the intake air pressure to 760 mmHg 03
15 Throttle position sensor (I/0) TPS - open or short circuit detected Fixes the TPS fully open 01
19 Sidestand switch (open circuit wire to ECU) Open circuit is detected in the input line from the sidestand switch to the ECU NO START 20
20 Intake and atmospheric pressure sensors Defective values are detected due to internal malfunction. Faulty sensor pipes : a hose is detached or closed. Fixes the intake air pressure and atmospheric oressure to 760 mmHg 02-03
21 Coolant temperature sensor Open or short circuit detected Fixes the coolant temperature to 60°C 06
22 Intake temperature sensor Open or short circuit detected Fixes the intake air temperature to 20°C 05
23 Atmospheric pressure sensor Open or short circuit detected Fixes the atmospheric pressure to 760 mmHg 02
24 O² sensor (inactive) No normal signals are received from the O² sensor - -
30 Lean cut angle cut-off switch (latch up detected) The motorcycle has overturned Turns OFF the fuel injection system relay of the fuel system 08
33 Faulty ignition #1 Open circuit detected in the primary wire of the ignition coil (#1) Fuel is cut off on to the cylinder in which malfunction is detected. Ability to start depends on the number of faulty cylinder ? ? 30
34 Faulty ignition #2 Open circuit detected in the primary wire of the ignition coil (#2) Fuel is cut off on to the cylinder in which malfunction is detected. Ability to start depends on the number of faulty cylinder ? ? 31
41 Lean angle cut-off switch (I/0) Open or short circuit detected Turns OFF the fuel injection system relay of the fuel system 08
42 Speed sensor, neutral switch No normal signals are received from the speed sensor, or, an open or short circuit is detected in the neutral switch Fixes the gear to the top gear 07-21
43 Fuel system voltage (monitor voltage) The ECU is no to monitor the battery voltage (an open circuit in the line to the ECU) Fixes the battery voltage to 12V -
44 Error in writing the amount of CO adjustment on EEPROM An error is detected while reading or writing on the EEPROM (CO adjustment value) - 60
50 ECU internal malfunction (memory check error) Faulty ECU memory. When this malfunction is detected the code number might not appear on the meter. - -
Notes
• Error #11 : in case of a faulty sensor, may be replaced by the speed sensor (direct swap).
• Error #19 : the most common error, can be also caused by a faulty alarm connection (2002-2003) or a false contact inside the main switch (see the Common Issues page).
Error #42 : when the speed sensor is inactive (or disconnected) the error code only appears after several minutes of driving time. The same applies if the sensor becomes operational again, in this case the error disappears after a several minutes of driving.

Error Codes Table : Communication between ECU & dash

These error numbers may appears when a communication issue occurs between the ECU and the dashboard.
• Engine start & driving are not possible.
• No Diag number is available, just check connectors between the dash and the ECU.
# Symptom
Er-1 No signals are received from the ECU.
Er-2 No signals are received from the ECU within the specific duration.
Er-3 Data from the ECU cannot be received correctly.
Er-4 Non-registered data has been received from the meter.

Immobilizer Unit Error Codes Table - 2004+

The error code number is indicated in the LCD display of meter and the immobilizer system indicator light flashes at the same time. The pattern of flashing also shows the error code.
# Item Symptom Trouble Measures
51 Immobilizer Cannot transmit code between the key and immobilizer unit. 1) Objects that may keep off radio waves exist around the keys and antennas.
2) Immobilizer unit failure
3) Key failure
1) Keep clear of magnets, metals and other keys from the surroundings of keys and antennas.
2) Replace the immobilizer unit.
3) Replace the key.
52 Immobilizer Codes do not match between the key and immobilizer unit. 1) Disturbed by other transponder.
Failed to verify continually for ten times.
2) Unregistered standard key was used.
1) Place the immobilizer unit away more than 50 mm from the transponder of other vehicle.
2) Register the standard key.
53 Immobilizer Cannot transmit code between the ECU and immobilizer unit. Noise interference or disconnected lead / cable.
1) Obstruction due to radio wave noise.
2) Error by disconnection of the communication harness.
3) Immobilizer unit failure.
4) ECU failure.
1) Check the wire harness and connector.
2) Replace the immobilizer unit.
3) Replace the ECU.
54 Immobilizer Codes do not match between ECU and immobilizer unit.
Noise interference or disconnected lead / cable.
1) Obstruction due to radio wave noise.
2) Error by disconnection of the communication harness.
3) Immobilizer unit failure
